BOOKING A SESSION:
As soon as you are interested in booking a session, shoot me an email or give me a call. We will discuss all the specifics of what you are looking for with your photo session. Some things we will solidify are what type of photos you’d like (baby, family, etc), what location you are interested in (studio or on-location), when is the best time for your photos, and which pricing package you would like. I’ll compile all this information in a convenient email and contract and send it your way. The email will also include information such as the details of the session, how to pay, help on what to wear, and a few other titbits of information. A ink to pay will follow which can be by Bank Transfer, Paypal, Credit Card etc more details on this here. Once the session fee or deposit is paid, your session is booked. I book 4-6 weeks in advance, and I am booking as far out as needed especially for newborns as I only book 3 per week to allow for date re-scheduling (if baby is early or late). Spring and Autumn and weekend sessions go very quickly, and are often booked several months in advance, so it is never too early to get your session date reserved. Several packages are available that include digital files and prints. Edited photos are available within 2 weeks of your session. You can order prints, wall art, albums, single digital files, session USBs, and many other items straight from your online gallery – see more about the products available here.
YOUR PHOTO SESSION:
Photo sessions are on average about an hour long, newborns take between 2 to 4 hours. We will meet at the selected location, either at my studio or at the chosen venue, at the scheduled time, go over any special photo requests or needs you have, and then get shooting! For an on-location outdoors session we will do lots of different poses, backgrounds, and walk around our location to get new perspectives. I try to keep things relaxed, talk about you and your family, and try not to make it all about posing or stiff smiles. I like to capture the candid moments just as much as the smiling-at-the-camera moments. I’m happy to accommodate any fun posing ideas you have, or any props you’d like to incorporate. At the end of the session, I’ll answer any last questions and then we’re all finished! Most of my sessions involve taking photos of children, please feel free to bring anything that will keep them happy (e.g. snacks, juice, favourite toy, etc.).
AFTER YOUR SESSION:
As soon as your session is over, I transfer your photos onto my computer with double backup, and begin editing. It takes about two weeks to edit and prepare your gallery. At that point, I will send you an email with your gallery link and password as well as ordering information. The turnaround of prints and products is approximately 2-3 weeks, more bespoke items may take longer. If you need your order rushed through by a certain date please check with me first to ensure I can reach your delivery expectation.
My goal is to give you natural, timeless photography that captures your unique personality. That means that through my editing process, my goal is to make your photos look as natural as possible while still making you look 110% your best. There are beautiful editing techniques out there, and they are changing all the time, however, I want you to look back on your photos in 50 years and be just as impressed with them as you are now. Just like fashion, editing styles become dated. So I like to keep a natural feel to the photos and then I edit to enhance the natural beauty which is already there. The only exception to the enhancement only rule would be with Fine Art portraiture where I use a ‘painterly’ editing style to give that beautiful vintage painted look. I create a nice mixture of images within your gallery which will consist of the traditional “everyone smiling at the camera photo,” as well as photos of you laughing, interacting with your loved ones, being silly, and just basically pictures of how you really are. We don’t all stand together and smile in the same direction, we smile at each other, and those images speak so beautifully about the relationships between people and families.
MORE ABOUT MY EDITING STYLE
Having been a photographer since the beginning of the digital age (I am now sounding extremely old!), I have gained considerable knowledge regarding the different styles and effects available to photographers. I have adopted 2 editing styles:
- Newborn and Child Fine Art – The editing process for this specialised category is extremely time consuming. It takes me on average 20 minutes to edit a single newborn image and if there are 25 images in your gallery, that equates to 8 hours worth of editing for just that one session.
- All other categories – I hand edit to enhance, so that your gallery bestows its own natural beauty.
- Further enhanced editing – I can remove scars and other marks upon request, this may incur additional cost.
