Nigerian Birthday Party Hons Restaurant Rainham

This 50th Birthday Party was held at Hons Chinese Restaurant in Rainham, Kent by Tanya for her husband. I had met Tanya at previous parties in which I was the Event photographer. The party started at 3:30 p.m. and the photography coverage required was 2 hours. The profundity of Nigerian friendships, their colourful clothing, their love for group photography and their passion for dance were all clear in these images. nigerian birthday party Hons Restaurant Rainham

Food is an important part of Nigerian culture so I took out a few moment to photograph the mouthwatering stews, rice and bowls of crisp fresh salads.

I then went back to portraits of the attendees most of them dressed up in traditional Nigerian wear while a few adorned English dinner dressing. The unmissable part was the dancing to Nigerian music in which I went to the dance floor and snapped a photo of a gentleman in a white shirt and a fedora hat getting down to the music. Two ladies, one in black and another in red, flanked him to the left and to the right.  There were many instances of all-girls photoshoots in the evening with the ladies dressed up in such colourful fabrics. If there was one thing that was obvious about the event it was that my client and her friends love Nigerians music. I got many photos of the hostess dancing alongside her closest girlfriends.

Kids, Dance and Cake

The kids were enjoying the entertainment, music and food, they were happy, indulgent and well mannered. I took quite a number of photos of them in which they were stylishly dressed up. I went back for another photo of the hostess singing her heart out with her family and friends. Finally it was time for the host to cut the cake and celebrate his fiftieth birthday. Back to the dancing

And here come the girls …. grooving, cutting shapes, swinging their hair and pouting into the camera as they boogied on the dance floor.  My 2 hours with this crowd was great fun and I loved the vibrancy of the evening.  Here are some of the photos from the time I spent with them….
